Working from home may seem like a dream come true, but it takes a lot of discipline to be productive when there are no rules. It is easy to lose several days that could have been put to constructive use simply because of poor time management and a lack of structure. To make the most of a work from home arrangement follow the time management tips below.

Have a Plan

To squeeze the most out of the work day take a few minutes to come up with a plan of action. This can be done at the start of the day but some prefer to plan for the next day at the end of the current work day. Ending the day thinking ahead sets the pace for the next morning and also creates the opportunity to put things down while they are fresh.

Prioritize

Different tasks may have different levels of urgency. Prioritizing is the process of ranking things to do in order of importance. At first it may be difficult to identify if one activity is more important than another, but over time it will become easier to distinguish between a task that is imperative or must be done and one that is important or should be done in a timely manner, but not necessarily immediately. Some tasks are also dependent on the results of another and these situations create a natural order in which things should be executed. By taking the time to prioritize there is no time wasted hesitating over what should be done first. There is a list to consult and then all that is left to do is execute.
