According to a recent Los Angeles Times article entitled, “Global shipping industry faces worker shortage,” employers all over are now worried that there won’t be enough employees available over the next few years to operate ships, drive trucks and haul freight, or run warehouses and distribution centers.

In fact, the International Maritime Organization claims that they are having trouble “training enough seafarers” and predict a shortfall of “27,000 to 46,000 ships’ officers in the near future.” Plus the U.S. trucking industry indicates that due to retirement and industry growth there will be a need to hire about 200,000 drivers this year along with the same amount by the end of 2011.

So how can job seekers interested in the fields of shipping, logistics and transportation prepare themselves for a worthwhile career?
